The HTML based World-Wide-Web is primarily for displaying information for humans to read - ten different websites could display the same information in ten different ways. Humans, using vision, perception and association, can easily look at the ten different web pages and know that the same information is being presented; however, it’s difficult to program a computer to be able to do this.
The Semantic Web is an effort lead by W3C to extend the current web to make it easier for computers tools to access data and information on the Internet. The Semitic Web will enable computers to do more than just display information by facilitating mass automation, reuse, and integration.
The Semantic Web offers huge potential to the Financial Analysis industry, as it should improve availability of financial data resulting in better Financial Software Tools and exciting developments in the area of Intelligent Financial Agents.
